Brazil secures 19 gigawatts at power capacity auction to strengthen energy supply

Brazil has secured 19 gigawatts of thermal and hydro power plants at a capacity auction, marking the biggest ever power deal in the country. The auction was held to secure back-up power capacity for periods of high demand or scarce supply. The contracts were awarded to existing plants and projects yet to be developed. Thermal projects from Brazilian firms Ambar Energia, Eneva and Petrobras were among the winners.
