A family in Newport News narrowly escaped injury when gunfire was fired into their apartment late on March 23, leaving behind shattered glass, bullet holes, and lingering fear. The incident occurred at the Cottage Grove Apartments where Sabrina Parkerson lives with her husband and her 4-year-old grandson were sleeping. Parkerson said she and her husband were asleep when the gunfire began. The family has been unable to receive assistance from the apartment complex due to no record of a work order related to most of the damage.
