Republicans in Congress add $250 annual federal EV tax to transport bill

The US government has been actively hostile towards the idea of energy efficiency, particularly towards the development of electric vehicle sales. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair, Sam Graves, has proposed adding an annual $250 tax on EV drivers to an upcoming bill. This is not the first time Graves has tried to tax drivers of more efficient vehicles; last year's committee attempted to include an escalating EV tax, starting at $200 annually, but was unsuccessful. The move is seen as symbolic as it hasn't been increased since 1993.
