Justin Timberlake has filed a petition with the New York State Supreme Court to prevent the release of body-worn camera footage from his June 2024 DWI arrest. The petition accuses the Sag Harbor Village Police Department, Sag Harbor Police Chief Robert Drake, and the Village of Sag Harbor, along with Timberlake's attorneys Edward J. Burke, Jr. and Michael del Piano, of violating personal privacy under Public Officers Law. It was filed after Freedom of Information Law requests from media organizations. The court-appointed petition stated that public dissemination of the footage would cause severe harm to Timberlake’s personal and professional reputation, harm his reputation, and harm the public interest in understanding government operations. It also stated that releasing the video would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy and would violate any public benefit from disclosure. The release of the body-cam footage was initially scheduled to be released on Monday, but was stayed due to the petition's refusal.
