St. Barnabas Parish shocked by pastor’s sudden reassignment

The Rev. Jim Donovan was reassigned to St. Barnabas Parish in Beverly, Chicago, without any involvement from the church or the church. Kelly Florek, operations director at St.Barnabas, operations Director at St BarnabAS Parish, expressed shock over the sudden reassignment of Donovan, who had five years left until his retirement. The Rev. Homero Sanchez will co-pastor both St. Barstabas and Christ the King parishes, starting June 30. The move comes as part of a larger struggle to manage a priest shortage within the church due to a shortage of priests in the area. The Chicago Archdiocese launched the Renew My Church initiative in 2016, which combined or closed churches in waves to address this issue.
