Comedian Bill Maher has responded to President Donald Trump's protest over his selection for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor award after the Trump administration protested his selection. On his episode of Real Time, Maher stated that he was "honored to accept" the award and hopes that Trump would attend the ceremony at the Kennedy Center, where he has previously been named as the first-ever America First Award. The White House comms director, Steven Cheung, had previously called the announcement "Literally FAKE NEWS". Despite this, Maher expressed his desire to engage with the president and expressed his respect for their relationship. The Kennedy Center's vice president of public relations, Roma Daravi, confirmed that Maher will receive the award following the protest.
