Microsoft has announced a $18 billion investment into Australia's digital infrastructure, with CEO Satya Nadella outlining a vision for Australia to become a hub for AI innovation rather than a consumer market. The partnership will involve Microsoft partnering with Canberra on initiatives including cybersecurity, workforce upskilling, and artificial intelligence development. Microsoft also plans to expand adoption of its Azure cloud computing infrastructure in the country by over 140% by the end of 2029. This follows a previous investment of $5 billion by Microsoft in October 2023. The agreement aligns with Australia's National AI Plan, which aims to build an AI-enabled economy more competitive, productive and resilient.
