The North East Independent School District Board of Trustees has voted to comply with the Texas Education Agency's guidance on student cell phone use, following a state investigation. The revised policy will change from a traditional ban on personal communication devices to a bell-to-bell ban starting May 25. The board also agreed to waive portions of the district's local policy to align with TEA requirements. The investigation was prompted by a special report by the TEA suggesting a conservator should be appointed to oversee the district’s implementation of its policy.
