Oracle is moving forward with a major East Bank development project in Nashville, despite recent corporate layoffs. The company's headquarters and surrounding campus are seen as integral to revitalizing the East Bank of the Cumberland River. Despite these setbacks, Oracle has stated that it is still working to establish its global headquarters in Nashville and is committed to creating thousands of new tech jobs there. The move comes after the company implemented massive layoffs, with estimates that the company would cut between 20,000 and 30,000 workers, resulting in an approximately 18% reduction of its global staff. Oracle is seeking a zoning change to its River North properties, which would create new design standards, relocate open space, and reconfigure the street grid. However, state Rep. Aftyn Behn, a Democrat representing the area, has publicly questioned Oracle's plans, suggesting they are using tax dollars to prop up its business model.
