The Willingboro Municipal Utility Authority is suing global technology company Methode Electronics and others for allegedly contaminating the town's drinking water with hazardous chemicals linked to cancer. The town's groundwater wells, which serve over 35,000 people, were allegedly polluted with a group of chemicals known as PFAS and the contaminant 1,4-dioxane. Despite investing $5.2 million in treatment upgrades to address the contamination, the utility company is expected to spend $20 million to remediate three additional wells. The lawsuit was filed under the Superfund Act and seeks damages and reimbursement for past, present and future costs of remediation.
