Why Jets traded up for QB Cade Klubnik in curious 2026 NFL Draft decision

The New York Jets made a questionable decision in the 2026 NFL Draft, trading up 18 spots to acquire Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. The team had been expected to draft a quarterback in the fourth round due to their lack of a fifth- or sixth-round pick. However, they believed there were two other teams that were interested in Klubnick. The Jets also traded two fourth-round picks (Nos. 128 and 140) to the Bengals and received a sixth-year pick (No. 199) in the trade. They ended up taking Miami guard Anez Cooper in the sixth round after another trade where they moved up 11 spots. The teams also began signing undrafted free agents after the draft ended.
