The victory increases the odds on the top spot in the division, conference and league standings, allowing the Stars to pull within two points of the Avalanche, who currently lead the NHL. This was the third consecutive shootout between the two teams this season. The win marks the end of a franchise record-setting 15-game winning streak for the Stars. Both teams are missing several key players due to injuries, including captain Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen, and center Roope Hintz.
