Michelle Fajman, director of the Lake County Board of Elections and Registration, hosted the first public “Behind the Ballot” open house for voters in the county. The free event allowed the public to discover important information about the voting and registration processes in Lake County, as well as the many services the LCBER provides. Local civic groups were also present to provide information on their non-partisan services. The event was part of a 90-minute presentation by Fajeman, who emphasized the importance of voter registration and preparation for new laws such as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility or SAVE Act, which has not yet been signed into law. Fajam encouraged voters to prepare for potential changes in driver's licenses and birth certificates. She also highlighted new state laws proposed during the last Indiana State Legislative Session, including House Bill 1359 and House Bill 1056, which proposed reducing the early voting days from 28 to 16 and moving municipal elections to even years.
