NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is leading the MoonFall project, a fleet of robotic drones designed to scout the lunar south pole. The project involves the release of four camera and sensor-laden "drones" over a still-to-be-selected site at the Lunar Lunar Base. The goal is to use each drone to cover a range of roughly 30 miles by the end of 2028. The drones will each carry a set of 10 cameras and science gear, with 40 dispatched over the rocky and rough lunar vista. Project lead, Ray Baker, credits Ingenuity's know-how and ability to combine this knowledge with industry capability to deliver on schedule. It's unclear how much the Moonfall project will cost but it is confident that in partnership with industry, JPL has the skills and technology to deliver.
