State budget accounts for federal cuts to Medicaid & SNAP, but not fully backfilled

The state of Washington has signed a budget that includes at least $165 million towards mitigating cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits. The implementation of the "Big Beautiful Bill" is expected to cut Medicaid funding by $1 trillion over the next ten years. The state is also preparing for changes in SNAP eligibility requirements. The budget includes $45 million towards administrative costs related to new SNAP laws and $9 million to implement new work requirements. However, lawmakers have argued that it will be impossible to fully offset these cuts.
