The crew was born in Harlem, elevated in the Bronx, and formed organically through battles, train performances, and long days spent moving across the city. The group was inspired by Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" and built itself from the ground up. The style evolved into a distinct musical lane, with the beats matching the rhythm, creativity, and individuality of the dancers. Early members of the WAFFLE Crew were already part of a network of dance crews like Fast Food Club, Brotherhood, and Breakfast Club. Despite the evolution, artists like Arstar, Johno, and Kid the Wiz have contributed significantly to the music itself.
