The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that a local jail does not have to disclose its contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). This ruling arose due to technical issues with a public records request sent to the Geauga County Sheriff's Office last year. The ACLU argued that the sheriff's office had been transparent and complied with the request. However, the court ruled that the ACLU had missed a filing deadline and submitted a request that was too narrow to apply to the contracts they sought. The court has yet to rule on whether local sheriff's offices can keep secret their contracts with ICE.
