Costco makes key changes to fix checkout pain points

Costco has made significant changes to its retail checkout experience, focusing on member experience rather than traditional ones. The company has been investing in its checkout experience both in its stores and on its website. The first Digital Commerce Index from NCR Voyix Corp found that 43% of consumers prefer self-checkout over traditional checkout, with 53% of younger shoppers aged 18 to 44 preferring self-checking out. CFO Gary Millerchip highlighted improvements in speed of checkout and employee productivity due to mobile wallet enhancements, pharmacy pay ahead, and the rollout of employee pre-scan technology. He also revealed that Costco is piloting automated pay stations that will allow members to pay for their pre-scheduled orders seamlessly.
