Zoo animal killed, cars damaged in Missouri hail storm

Hail as large as softballs struck in Missouri on April 28, killing an animal at the Dickerson Park Zoo. The National Weather Service measured 4-inch hail after the first wave of the storm. The zoo had significant damage, with a 21-year-old female emu killed and a male rhea being treated by a vet. No staff or visitors were injured and the zoo will be closed on April 29. The storm also damaged patrol cars and roofs across the region. The Missouri State Highway Patrol posted photos of the damage to its patrol vehicles.
