Bernie Moreno, both Catholic, are aligning with President Donald Trump in a feud with Pope Leo XIV, who has publicly criticized him for opposing US military strikes on Iran and the administration's immigration enforcement efforts. Moreno, who was raised in the Catholic Church, criticised the pope for becoming too political and criticizing his decisions regarding Iran, Iran, and Catholic Charities. In a post on his Truth Social media platform, Trump accused Pope Leo of being "weak on crime" and "bad for foreign policy". He also warned the pope to stop catering to the Radical Left and focus on being "a Great Pope, not a Politician." Pope Leo responded by saying he is unafraid of the Trump administration and is trying to advance peacemaking as the Bible advises.
