Volunteers from across the state have been training to safely set up and manage emergency shelters for animals during disasters. The training was led by the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps and the Oklahoma Small Animal Response Team. The main goal of the training is identification and reunification of animals. The Florida State Animal Response coalition led the training, a FEMA-approved program that travels the country teaching communities how to respond to disasters. Participants can now use their knowledge to train others. While volunteers are training, you can also be preparing at home by microchip your pet, keeping records handy and having a go-bag with necessities.
