Chemicals in plastics linked to newborn deaths, premature births: Research

A study has found that two chemicals used to make plastics more flexible are linked to newborn deaths and premature births. The study, which looked at data from 2018, estimated that close to 1.97 million worldwide premature births were caused by di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), or DINP, or 8.74 percent of all premature births, respectively. The chemicals are often used in personal care products, children's toys, and food packaging and processing materials.
