For the second consecutive year, no schools from a mid-major conference have made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. This is an outlier in the men's basketball landscape, with schools from the Big Ten, SEC, ACC, and Big 12 belonging to mid-majors. This includes schools from Florida Gulf Coast, the West Coast Conference, the Atlantic 10, and the Missouri Valley and Mountain West. However, Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd believes that financial stability will change once financial stability becomes part of the game. The lack of mid-ranking schools in the tournament has been blamed for this trend. Despite this, the tournament's lack of upsets hasn't been negatively affecting the bottom line or deterred viewers.
