The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been without pay for 41 days, leading to long airport security lines and frustrated passengers. Robert Mack, a lead transportation officer at San Diego International Airport, estimates that around 13% of San Diego TSA agents are calling out daily. The partial government shutdown has resulted in roughly 50,000 TSA agents going without pay. Workers across the country have called out sick or sought other ways to make money. Long security lines continue to persist throughout the weekend, with airport spokesperson Nicole Hall predicting long weekend travel times. The shutdown started five weeks ago due to Democrats and Republicans refusing to fund Homeland Security's budget.
