Terrence Chalk, known as "Dr. Cash," was convicted felon who persuaded dozens of investors, many of whom he claimed would generate steady returns through wealth seminars held at churches, to contribute millions to a fund he claimed was a Ponzi-like scheme. The fund was largely funded by new investors and used new investor money to pay earlier backers while also funding personal expenses such as luxury car payments, credit card bills, jewelry purchases, NBA season tickets and a swimming pool installation. A federal judge in the Southern District of New York has imposed a permanent court order barring Chalk from future securities violations and ordering him to surrender more than $1.7 million in ill-gotten gains, plus interest. Chalk was sentenced in 2025 to three years in prison after pleading guilty to investment adviser fraud in a separate criminal case. The money was used to pay for Chalk's lavish lifestyle and underwrite Chalk’s lavish lifestyle.
