Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs has vetoed a bill that would have renamed a highway in the Phoenix area after slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Both the Arizona Senate and House passed the legislation, which would have named the Loop 202 freeway near Turning Point USA’s headquarters. Hobbs argued that honoring Kirk by naming a highway after him would not be appropriate and that the renaming process should involve the Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names. The bill's sponsor, Senate President Warren Petersen, criticized the decision, stating it breaks with a longstanding tradition of recognizing impact over politics. Earlier this month, Hobbs also rejected a bill calling for a specialty license plate honoring Kirk, with proceeds from the sales not receiving.
