The defending Indian Wells champion, Mirra Andreeva, experienced a meltdown at Indian Wells after failing to successfully defend her title. She lost 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to unseeded Katerina Siniakova in the Round of 32. Despite showing some grit in the first set, she lost the second set tiebreaker and continued to throw her racket after losing the match, causing a code violation and a match-day outburst. Despite feeling remorseful for her actions, she remains No. 8 in the world and will enter the doubles quarterfinal round on Wednesday to continue her quest for another title.
