The Tennessee General Assembly has passed a law that allows the attorney general to audit the Shelby County district attorney’s office and replace the DA if deemed appropriate. The bill is awaiting Republican Gov. Bill Lee's signature. The attorney general can take action against current Shelby County DA Steve Mulroy if sufficient evidence is found that his office was not enforcing current laws. The legislation aims to address the problem of crime in Memphis, which is currently ranked as the most dangerous city in the US.
