Gerrit Cole makes spring training start as Yankees get better grasp on ace's return timeline

Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees' starting pitcher, is returning to game action for the first time since having Tommy John surgery in March. This will be Cole's first game since the surgery and he is expected to pitch one inning. Despite this, Cole is still aiming for a late May or June return to the Yankees' rotation. His rehab has been progressing well, with manager Aaron Boone stating that Cole's participation indicates well-received progress. Cole's return is not imminent. This is Year 7 of his nine-year, $324 million contract, which was the largest in history at the time.
