The 51st AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute To Eddie Murphy will be broadcast on Netflix on May 31, over a month after a gala tribute was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The American Film Institute (AFI) has been presenting its AFI life achievement award to entertainment luminaries since 1973. Murphy was chosen last year for the award, following other notable recipients including Francis Ford Coppola, Nicole Kidman, and Julie Andrews. Proceeds from the gala will benefit AFI's education and arts initiatives.
