Two women testified during the sentencing phase of Tanner Horner's capital murder trial that they were sexually assaulted by him as teenagers, years before he pleaded guilty to killing 7-year-old Athena Strand. The testimony came as jurors decide whether Horner should be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole. One woman testified that she was 16 when she met Horner through mutual friends and that he assaulted her twice during a drinking period. She said that Horner knew she was underage at the time and had instructed her to tell his grandmother she was 18 if asked. Both women testified that they did not report the alleged assaults to law enforcement until after Horner was arrested in Athena's killing.
