Oscar-winning Mahershala Ali has been cast as Eddie Barnes, the character of Mark Ruffalo, in the second season of HBO's crime drama Task. Season two will see Ruffalo return as Agent Tom Brandis, leading a new task force. The showrunner, Paul Lee and Mark Roybal, will also be involved in the production as exec producers. Despite HBO denying a second season was on the table, sources say the initial plan was for a one season, similar to Ingelsby's other HBO crime drama, Mare of Eastown. Ali's role in the upcoming season will be played by a rival DEA agent, not Pelphrey's.
