Google has signed agreements with five U.S. electric utilities to reduce its electricity use during peak demand for data centers. This move is part of a wider effort to secure power for fast-growing data centers amid slow additions of new supply. The agreements will allow Google to reduce electricity consumption at some data centers when demand on the grid is exceptionally high. The contracts also cover the cost of 1 million gallons of electricity per capita.
