Jacob Tierney, the showrunner of Heated Rivalry, has revealed that he is working on season 2 of the series, which he calls "much more serious territory" than the previous season. He joined author Rachel Reid, the creator of the Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov romance saga, for a panel at BookCon 2026 for a discussion about the adaptation of Reid's 2022 book The Long Game, the sequel story to her HeatedRivalry (2019). The story of The LongGame picks up 10 years into their relationship, with the couple's love remaining a secret until their marriage can be made public. The team expects season 2 to begin filming this summer and premiere on Crave in Canada and HBO Max in the U.S. and other international territories in spring 2027. Tierney also hinted that he and his writing partner Michael Goldbach may be splitting their adaptation of the Long Game across a second and third season of the show.
