My mother, 87, has pancreatic cancer, which has returned after a six-month reprieve and doctors have said she cannot have more treatments due to health and age. She refuses palliative care and hospice. She has difficulty walking, severe brain fog and fatigue, and is also medically anorexic due to nausea. She blames all symptoms on radiation and insists she will recover once the radiation effects wear off. Her oncology team has done an exceptional job of giving her a reality check, but she denies their facts. Her daughter, who has a complicated history, will not live with her again unless it is an end-of-life situation. She is willing to help her sort out home healthcare and/or rides to and from places she needs to go, which she also refuses.
