A survey by the Democracy Institute has found that American Catholics are becoming increasingly skeptical of President Donald Trump, who was a key factor in his reelection bid. The survey found that 57% of Catholics believe 57% believed that a recent social media post depicting Trump as Jesus was "wrong," while 36% agreed with Trump's criticism of Pope Leo XIV. The numbers have marked a significant shift from the 2024 election, when 22% of those who voted for Trump were Catholic. The poll also revealed that 70% of Catholic voters also did not believe Trump's claim that the image depicted him as a Red Cross doctor. The pope condemned the Iran war, calling it an "unacceptable" conflict fueled by a "delusion of omnipotence" and threatened to destroy a "whole civilization" in Iran if the Iranian regime failed to reach an agreement to end the conflict.
