Andrew Niccol's 2011 sci-fi film "In Time" has been criticized for its premise, which suggests that time is replaced by time. The main character, Will (Justin Timberlake), is an impoverished factory worker who steals time from another person's deathclock. This is a metaphor for intergenerational wealth, with people born in poverty often passing wealth on to their children. The film's plot involves Will rescuing a rich, 105-year-old man from muggers who transfers all the years of his own life into Will's arm before dying. However, this makes Will suspect that Will is living on stolen time. Critics were not particularly fond of the film, which currently has a 36% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been sued by Hararlan Ellison for ripping off one of his ideas.
