Tesla has announced that the availability of Robotaxis (autonomous taxis) will be pushed back in five US cities, according to its quarterly earnings. This announcement was accompanied by what appears to be a backpedaling on availability of the robotaxis in 5 of the 8 cities Tesla has announced availability in. The company has long promised to roll out autonomous taxis around the US and later the world, but has failed to meet these promises. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that the company will stop selling cars when it solves autonomy, as cars would be too profitable to sell. Despite this, Tesla has not yet filed for a permit to run autonomous taxis in California. The remaining five announced cities have changed to the uncertain "preparations underway" rather than the specific "1H 2026" timeline.
