The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) celebrated President Donald Trump as much as it is conservatism. Attendees wore elaborate costumes and wore Trump 2028 caps, while some of his populist policies challenged traditional conservatism. Despite not being expected to attend this year's convention, this celebration foreshadows his eventual departure as leader of the GOP and the conservative movement. As they celebrated Trump, CPAC attendees also anticipated a new generation of political leaders, including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The convention was also marked by the potential departure of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Since its founding in 1974, the event has been a forum for ideas about conservatism and election winning elections.
