Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar has announced that the use of AI language translation on body-worn cameras will enable deputies to communicate with those who do not speak English. The Translate Assistant, which uses artificial intelligence to translate 60 different languages, will be used to assist in the conversation. The cameras are also equipped with an auto-detect language feature. The sheriff's office hopes these features will allow for clearer communication during emergencies like when deputies are assisting victims of crimes like human smuggling. The training will begin with patrol deputiesto being trained first, but all deputies will eventually be trained to use the Translate assistant.
