The shift towards downsizing fueled by the GLP-1 drug boom and celebrities' slimming celebrities is causing a cultural shift towards body positivity, according to mental health experts and body positive advocates. Mental health experts, advocates, and celebrities are concerned that this shift is destabilizing for those seeking acceptance of their bodies. The rise of the now-banned "SkinnyTok" hashtag has been seen as a sign that bodies are becoming a trend again, with some believing that real people's bodies are not a trend. The proliferation of drugs exacerbates a two-tiered societal divide between those who can afford medical intervention and those who must settle for body positive. The drugs also carry side effects, including nausea, headaches and fatigue, and there is an increased risk of GI disorders such as pancreatitis. However, experts argue that the use of these drugs should be used as a tool to treat a chronic disease rather than a vanity product.
