Trevor Tamura, a 25-year-old aspiring doctor, was diagnosed with a cancerous germ cell brain tumor at the age of 24 just days before starting medical school at the University of Colorado (CU) School of Medicine. Unlike most brain tumors, these tumors originate from reproductive cells that have migrated to the brain during early development. Tamura was transferred to the Children’s Hospital Colorado's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders for continuous treatment. He underwent chemotherapy, followed by six weeks of radiation, and completed treatment in December of 2024. Despite initially planning to pursue virology, his experience shifted his interest towards virology. Tamra now hopes his unique experience will influence his future patient care.
