Archive researchers have discovered that Neanderthal children enjoyed hunting turtles, which were found at Neumark-Nord in Germany around 125,000 years ago. The remains of these turtles were clearly indicating they had been butchered and were found in areas where turtles were more prevalent. This suggests that Neanderthals may have been hunting these turtles for sustenance, but also for cultural reasons. The discovery suggests that the turtles were easy targets as they were slow, ponderous creatures that could teach children hunting early.
