Democrats rip detention of distraught woman at San Francisco airport

Democratic lawmakers have criticized the detainment of two individuals by federal immigration officers at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), a day before the arrival of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to assist with security. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that ICE officers arrested Angelina Lopez-Jimenez and Wendy-Godinez Lopez, undocumented migrants who had received a final order of removal from an immigration judge in 2019. The San Francisco Police Department stated that its officers were not involved in the arrest but remained at the scene to maintain public safety. The incident occurred during the DHS shutdown, which has resulted in increased security wait times at airports across the country due to more than 400 TSA officers leaving.
