The episode of "Seinfeld" where Jerry Seinfeld set fire to Newman, another episode of the show, "The Pothole," is one of many wild moments from the episode that almost ended in Michael Richards' death. The episode, which also featured Kramer adopting a one-mile section of the road through the Adopt a Highway program, led to confusion and traffic congestion. The scene almost ended when Kramer ran out of the scene and ran away from the stunt drivers, unaware of his actions. The DVD commentary indicates that Richards improvised the moment without telling anyone what he was going to do.
