The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in Norman, Oklahoma, is responsible for forecasting severe thunderstorms and tornadoes nationwide. These outlooks will continue to be used on air and on-air by WKBN Storm Team 27 when severe weather threatens our area. Starting March 3, these changes will include a change in how the SPC communicates the "conditional intensity" of the severe weather threat within these outlooks. This will allow forecasters to highlight areas at risk for more intense, violent storms regardless of how widespread the damage is expected to be. The new outlooks allow meteorologists to better communicate with their TV and web audiences about the likelihood and coverage of severe weather, but also the severity of the potential threats.
