Supreme Court clears way for dismissal in case of ex-Cincinnati councilman pardoned by Trump

The Supreme Court has dismissed Alexander "P.G." Sittenfeld's appeal of his 2022 conviction, stating that the court should not hear arguments regarding when political campaign donations cross the line into felony bribes. The court's decision means that the case may be returned to the lower court, where it can be dismissed permanently. Sittenfield was convicted of accepting $20,000 in donations to his political action committee from undercover FBI agents posing as advocates for a downtown property. His conviction resulted in a 16-month prison sentence, but he was released pending appeal. However, President Trump's pardon in May removed that possibility, and 25 others were granted clemency.
