The pilot of a plane that crashed on Catalina Island gave no indication it was headed to the island's airport, according to authorities. The plane was carrying a pilot and passenger who died in the crash. FlightAware, a third-party flight tracking website, showed multiple flights over the past two weeks from Torrance over the island, with the pilot at times flying at or below 500 feet in altitude compared to the Catalina Airport runway. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The victims have not yet been identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.
