Why Aer Lingus chose Pittsburgh for new Dublin route

Pittsburgh International Airport is set to receive new direct flights to Dublin from May 25, with Aer Lingus marketing director Lisa Melarkey and her team visiting the U.S. to promote the airline's new routes. Over 86,000 people in the Pittsburgh area report Irish ancestry, according to Census data. The new route will operate four times a week and costs $519 round-trip. The first two years of operation are being subsidized by a $5.25 million state grant. The airline plans to increase marketing about Pittsburgh as a travel destination.
