JTA is temporarily furloughing 88 senior leaders in its administrative staff to reduce costs and maintain its budget, following a $19 million budget overrun in the previous year. The move comes after a year where JTA experienced a $18 million budget overspending and will impact all levels of the agency, including the CEO. While the employees will not receive pay during their 20-day period, their benefits will remain in place. However, the savings won't be enough to avoid looming price hikes for the Connexion Plus premium paratransit service, which was expected to cost $8 million this year. Disability advocates are proposing a plan to limit Connexance Plus to trips of eight or more miles, which they estimate would save $4.1 million annually.
